The second
Edition of the Mukete cup has kicked off in Kumba. Organized by Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, Paramount
Ruler of the Bafaw, this competition provides an opportunity for all villages which comprise the Bafaw tribe to come together and compete in a football tournament.
Launched under the theme “Football at the
center of Advancing Unity and Togetherness of the Bafaw”, this second edition
was opened by Prince Ndoki Mukete, who was representing the Nfon Mukete IV
Ekoko the Paramount Ruler.
In an
address, Prince Ndoki Mukete urged the players to display a spirit of fair play
in the course of the competition, while insisting that football is a beautiful
game which should always gather and not separate people.
The opening encounter which took place at GPS (Government Practicing School) field, Kumba town, between Kumba Town FC and last year’s champions Bolo FC ended in a goalless draw.
Cheering the
teams on the sidelines were football lovers, including administrative
authorities in Meme Division, Bafaw youth and cultural groups who turned up to
show their support for the tournament.
Sponsored
with support from partners like CAMTEL, The Kumba City council and many others,
the champions of this second edition will be crowed on the 27th of
August.
