Persons with disability from Kumba and its environs gathered
at the Women’s Empowerment Center in Kumba on the 17th of July to commemorate
the Disability Awareness Day. (DAD)
This firth edition in Cameroon was celebrated under the
theme “Changing the lives of Persons lives of persons with disability.
Disability awareness day is set aside for persons with disability
to come together, voice their plights, encourage each other as well as jointly
seek ways to improve their lives.
In his opening speech, the Cameroon country coordinator Takang
Aya Ayuk who equally doubles as the President of “Close the Gap” thanked their UK
partner and initiator of the Disability awareness day, Dave Thompson for his support,
which went a long way to ensuring a successfully celebration in Kumba.
During this occasion, disability right activist Lilian Dibo
Eyong, encouraged persons with disability to together live together in peace
and carry themselves with dignity.
This event was also attended by Kumba based Non-Governmental
organizations like, Lilian Dibo Foundation, Rescue Women Cameroon(REWOCAM), MEPEWIDA
and TWIN-Me Foundation, who turned up to show their love and support for
persons with disability.
